Guidelines for Interactive (poster) Presentations
Poster presentations provide an interactive one-on-one discussion of work completed. A short synopsis of the motivation, methodology, outcomes, and conclusions should be included on the poster, with emphasis placed on the outcomes of work completed.
A submission should emphasize at least one of the conference themes. Authors will be asked to indicate the main theme of their submission.
Stage of Development
A submission must clearly indicate the stage of work completed, and emphasize the outcomes and impacts of that stage in the development process. Authors will be asked to indicate the stage of development when submitting work. This information will help reviewers understand the goals and expected outcomes of submissions; it will not be published with the submission.
The below stages of development provide a concise guide to help authors understand the scope of their work. Authors should emphasize the strengths and outcomes of their completed work without speculating into other stages of the development process.
- Concept—needs identification, market evaluation, concept development
- Prototype—prototyping, technology, early implementation, testing, evaluation, results
- Deployment—scaling, management, supply chain, monitoring
- Other—all development phases, education, sustainability planning, financing, etc.
This guide has been created for technical solutions to humanitarian challenges. The stage “Other” will be available as an option at the time of submission should authors wish to write-in an alternative stage or scope of work.
Deadlines for submitting content accepted for poster (close form interactive) presentation can be found here. Required content includes
- Draft submission – Completed Short (3-4 page) paper or Oral-only (1 page) description for review and acceptance
- Final submission – Revised accepted final Short paper or Oral-only description that incorporates reviewer comments
An additional submission may be required if the poster requires major revisions. You may make minor adjustments to the poster after final submission and bring an updated printed copy to the conference.
Submissions that do not meet the below requirements may be rejected without review.
- Language—All submissions must be in English.
- Formatting—You may use your own template or the conference template. The conference template can be found here.
- Size—The physical size of the poster is your decision. The size should be appropriate to convey your work. Poster board will be provided to hold your poster. The poster board can be placed either on a table or an easel. Posters are commonly A1 (84.1 cm x 59.4 cm), but are occasionally A0 (118.9 cm x 84.1 cm) or 2 x 3 feet, and 3 x 4 feet. They can include multiple sheets of A2 (59.4 cm x 42.0 cm), A3 (42.0 cm x 29.7 cm), or A4 (29.7 cm x 21.0 cm). One Letter paper is roughly the same size as one A4.
- Abstract—The maximum size of the abstract is 200 words. The abstract discusses your poster but is separate from your poster—the abstract should not be written word-for-word on your poster.
- Submission format—Submissions are only accepted in PDF.
